font friday... free font of the month!

2 fun fonts for June! This month's new font is Paris Doodles. Lots of little Paris drawings. It was nice to armchair travel back to Paris to create this font. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I did making it.

And Hodgehodge Handlettered is this month's FREE font. Lots of mismatched letters. Works nicely for a headline for an inital cap here or there. To download this font for FREE click on the link to the right.

And you have been asking for a font of cute animals... So Justine is working on Just Animals. And here's your chance to tell us what animals you need. Just leave a message in the comment section and I'll pass it on to her.

Have a great June, Summer has finally arrived! See you next month.

font friday...Eames by house industries

I was quite excited to receive this Eames type catalog from House Industries. This family Eames Century Modern includes 16 serif fonts, a stencil cut, 4 number sets and many ornaments and frames. Not to mention it is all shown in this fabulous 126 page catalog of typographic goodness.

Charles and Ray Eames did not design a typeface. They did, however, leave behind a philosophical template for a font collection. Personally I think House Industries did a good job. It has the Eames feel.

I enjoy the vast wealth of things created by Charles and Ray (Kaiser) Eames. I love mid-century classics and am delighted to own 4 of their iconic fiberglass chairs. They created so many things... furniture, fabric, films, they designed and built the Eames House, Case Study House #8. I find everything they made so visually pleasing. The only thing that would make it better would be if I was actually related to Ray.

font friday... ohh la la... Paris Doodles!

Who doesn't like Paris? This font was SO much fun to do and it was equally fun to revisit our trip of several years ago and recapture it in a whimsical way. Memories of a feeling, a rainy afternoon, a glass of wine, an outdoor cafe, a metro stop... This is a sample of some of the 30 Paris Doodles included in the font.

font friday... free font of the month club!

Tomorrow is May and means it is Free Font of the Month time! And for those of you who don't come here for my blog you will notice that this month brings a homepage redesign... and even better yet an immediate download from PayPal for single fonts. I also offer custom value pack pricing. Unfortunately those are not an immediate download. I am still pondering that.

This month's new font is Paisley and Swirl Doodles... 26 paisleys and 26 doodles, all hand drawn.

And the FREE font is Best Regardz. A fun little handwriting font that doesn't take itself too seriously. And will be included in the 2011 Typodarium calendar.

To buy Paisley and Swirls or download for free Best Regardz plz use the links to the right.

Enjoy!

Font Friday and 1000 Fonts

1000Fonts—uniquely—organizes fonts into categories by the major aspects of function. Each font is marked with icons that identify its salient and supplementary features, with cross-references to direct you toward viable alternatives. The book also includes a wealth of iconic examples of fonts in action—creating an accessible tool that is the fastest way to find a font that functions.

Bob Gordon is senior lecturer in graphic art and design at the University of Brighton, and is the author of Making Digital Type Look Good (Ilex).

And I am delighted to share that my font Party Doodles is one of the 1000 fonts featured in this book! Can't wait to get the book and see what the other 999 are.

Font Friday... Typodarium

Since I like fonts and I assume some of you like fonts I am going to try and do a Font Friday post most weeks. This week's is about this fabulous Font-A-Day calendar I tried to buy last year. It is created in Germany so by the time I was looking for a new calendar it appeared this was either not readily available here or was sold out. I was sad, I take my calendars seriously.

Then in February while on vacation I got an email to submit some of my fonts to this calendar for possible inclusion for 2011. When I got home and went to work on this project I found that all the slots had been filled in just a couple hours. Once again I was sad, but I went on a waiting list.

Late last week I got an email that there were now a few slots open and I could submit again. I went to work immediately and have just learned this week that the 4 fonts above will be included in the calendar. I am so excited.

Here is a fun You Tube video on this years calendar.

Now I just hope I can get my hands on the 2011 calendar.
