My Creative Process...

reativity... I get a lot of comments and emails about it. How I have it and maybe you don't. Or how can you get it. I was also told by someone that I should blog about my process. I am going to from time to time because it breaks down how I am creative in a step-by-step approach. If I can do it, you can do it. It is like anything. The more you do it the better you get. And I have been working on my creative process since I was a little girl and was given a scrapbook. I cut pictures out and pasted them in. MANY years later when my mother brought me my scrapbook I could then see that I had arranged my pages by color, or topic and they were all in little layouts. Anyway I digress... I make Doodle fonts and the above cookie is from the Food Doodles Too font. John's niece is starting a company where she will make and sell gourmet cookies. So I made this logo for her using the clip art from that font. I then scripted the company name to wrap around the cookie, making it part of the art. I then added a little color. I scan and clean things up in Adobe Photoshop and created the art in Adobe Illustrator. The color is just 2 different circles of color layered. Her cookie boxes will be pink so that is where the pink icing came from. Clean, simple and what girl doesn't like a little pink?

Cast On logo and podcast...

Here is a logo I recently designed for Brenda Dayne of Cast On podcast fame. As you know I rarely do this kind of work anymore. I prefer to make fonts... but I am a fan of Brenda's and have listened to all her knitting podcasts so I felt like I knew her. I left a comment in her show notes and she knew who I was from seeing my fonts online and asked me to do her logo... so I did. I am pleased with the results. I think the final script has a 'yarn-like' feel without being cute about it. It feels a bit retro with out being outdated.

And if you knit but don't know who Brenda is you must. She is American but lives in Wales. Her hour long podcasts are a mix of knitting, music, and a varied amount of interesting things. Not to mention she has a great voice. So she is a delight to listen to. She will quickly feel like your knitting best friend. Her next big knitting endeavor is the Cast On Interactive Learning Environment. I am sure knowing Brenda it will be wonderful.

logos

I sometimes do logos. I can do logos but they are hard work because this is the time you really have to get in someone's head and figure out who they are and give them an image that they think is them. And that is hard to do. I tell people they have to talk until I get pictures in my head. It also involves a font that the person thinks is them, possibly an image and colors. To be perfectly honest I almost always tell people no. But Jill is a friend so I know her and we click creatively. And I know she likes suns the way I like hearts. OK she likes suns more than I like hearts. She has a sun tattoo and she named her one and only child Sunny.

And Jill when your friends like your logo and want me to do one for them... Uh, the answer is no. And no web work either. Right Terry?
