really cool tip. This is for an iPhone or iPad and Safari.

1. Open a  blog post in Safari on your iPhone or iPad. 2. See the gray button that says Reader.

3. Click on the Reader button and you get a much more readable version of the post. It takes out all the clutter. This will be especially helpful on your iPhone.

mac tip #7

New Orleans Doodles is done, sort of. I am at the testing part. Testing is really important because a bad font can cause the user a lot of problems. And who ever thinks it is the new font you installed? No one. I am merrily working along this week making graphics, testing until I get to Word. This font will not show up in Word. If there is a problem it is always going to be Word. I will not bore you with the laundry list of things I have tried. Except for one...

It was suggested that I run FontNuke. While it did not solve the problem I must have a really clean font cache. FontNuke is a free utility application for Mac OS X 10.4.x+ (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion) that removes corrupt and troublesome font cache files.

Why would you need this you ask? Font Nuke says...

Problems caused by bad 'font cache' files

  • Fonts which have been added to the system or activated with 3rd party software, do not show up in application font lists
  • When multiple styles for a similar font family are active, the font displays as a different style then is selected (e.g.; Garamond-Bold is selected but displaying as Garamond-Italic)
  • Text is garbled or random characters are inserted
  • Text disappears entirely
  • Applications stall or quit immediately after launch
  • Fonts look correct on screen, but when printed:
    • convert to Courier or other random fonts
    • do not print at all, an error may be generated or nothing happens at all

Even though it did not solve my problems it is a good thing to know about...

And now I am going to  have some wine with my whine. And tomorrow is another day.

mac tip #6

don't know about you but I am always swiping things so I can go back and think about them later. Or recently I changed something in my email so I wanted to take a quick picture of my settings before things changed in case I had to go and change things back.

Here is a great way to do it and even adds a nice little drop shadow.

1. Hold down the 'Command' and the 'Shift' keys at the same time.

2. Then hit the 4.

3. Then hit the space bar.

4. Click once on your track pad.

And Bob's your Uncle.

mac tip #5

this has been bugging me for a long time. And thanks to Paul at the Apple Store I know how to make a good signature. Whew. My problem was that I could put copy at the bottom of my emails but could not figure out how to change the font or size. And I find that important. If you also obsess over the little things here is how you to can have a nicely formatted sig at the bottom of your emails.

Start by going to Mail>Preferences>Signatures

Type in your copy.

Now go to Format>Show Fonts and/or Format>Show Colors

Format to your heart's content.

If you want to add a link, type the link copy and then select Link, highlight the link copy and right click>Choose Link

There, now we can all sleep better at night.

mac tip #4

Really, really bugs me when I type in an email address and see a big list of old email addresses for that person. In some cases it is even emails from jobs they have long left.

Well here is your solution assuming you are using a Mac and Apple Mail.

1. Go to the pull down menu for Window and select Previous Recipients.

2. In the search bar type the name of the person.

3. Highlight and Remove from List any names you want to delete.

Now wasn't that easy?

digital color meter... on the mac

Here is something really cool I learned last week from my uber smart trainer Paul at the Apple Store during my One to One session. On my Mac I have a little application called the DigitalColor Meter. It allows me to match colors and know what that color is so I can easily replicate it throughout my site.

I had no idea that I had this little app. It is easy and very fast to use. Thanks Paul!

And for those of you using a PC I have no idea how you can do this and well, I'm sorry.
